When You Get Hurt

After I Getting more and more information about Hemingway I realized that his life is really full of danger and tragic , or we can say it is a legeng. Sometimes I really feel I can do noting to the current situation. we can't choose what life is in store for us. Howerer we can know that Everything that happens to us is a gift and that happens must be with a reason. It is because something seems unlucy to us at the time and we can not know the answer right away. There is one thing we are sure that it is must a gift to us. Just because God want us to Know and learn something and want us to a better man. Like Hemingway after his sufferring from these things, he gains more knowledge about love, life, and sufferring. He can writes with a true heart and these words can touch us softest part of our heart easily. Just learn to face and experience.

Hemingway is a master of dialogue. It's not so much that he is recreating precisely how individuals speak, but through his brilliant use of repetition, he is able to make the reader remember what has been said. Hemingway's style of writing was probably most influenced by his early work as a cub reporter for The Kansas City Star. There he was forced to adhere to a stylebook for young reporters, which included the following advice: "Use short sentences. Use short first paragraphs. Use vigorous English, not forgetting to strive for smoothness. Be positive, not negative."it is like in the Hills like white elephant we can tell waht is going on through the whole diaguage.

Hemingway's Iceberg Theory

Iceberg Theory is a writing theory stated like that "If a writer of prose knows enough about what he is writing about he may omit things that will have a feeling of those things as strongly as though the writer had stated them. The dignity of movement of an iceberg is due to only one-eighth of it being above water. A good writer does not need to reveal every detail of a character or action.(Ernest Hemingway, Death in the Afternoon)
In other words, a story can communicate by subtext and for instance, Hemingway's Hills Like White Elephants we have covered never once mentions the word "abortion," though that is what the story's characters seem to be discussing.

Brief Introduction of Hemingway

Ernest Miller Hemingway (July 21, 1899 — July 2, 1961) was an American novelist, short-story writer, and journalist. He was part of the 1920s expatriate community in Paris, as well as the veterans of World War One later known as "the Lost Generation", as described in his posthumous memoir A Moveable Feast. ("'That's what you are. That's what you all are,' Miss Stein said. 'All of you young people who served in the war. You are a lost generation.'" Stein had overheard a garage owner use the phrase to criticize a mechanic.) He received the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for The Old Man and the Sea, and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
Hemingway's distinctive writing style is characterized by economy and understatement, in contrast to the style of his literary rival William Faulkner. It had a significant influence on the development of twentieth-century fiction writing. His protagonists are typically stoic men who exhibit an ideal described as "grace under pressure." Many of his works are now considered canonical in American literature.

feeling of this book

A Farewell To Arms is one of Hemingway’s war and love stories. This novel takes place in Italy during World War I and is tied closely to the author’s own experience
as an American Ambulance Driver for the Italian Army. The story is about a Ambulance driver Henry, meets and courts an English nurse stationed in Italy. The main idea of the story is the evolution of the love of these two in the war. The most important is that Henry is wounded and after his return to the front, an Italian retreat from which he barely escapes. Finally, he and Catherine, his English love, seperate and enter Switzerland to await the birth of their child. Baby and mother both die and Henry is left alone, his future left by the author untold. Through the character of Henry, Hemingway argues against war. Frederic accepts what life hands him without murmuring.Hemingway himself had served in the Italian army as an ambulance driver and, like Henry, was wounded in the legs. So, much of A Farewell to Arms’ emotional energy was taken from his own experiences. The author portrays a intimate, caring relationship between Henry and Catherine. The novel helped break new social and literary frontiers, with its economical style and emotional understatement. The prose is terse, in characteristic Hemingway style. The evolution of the love story is no exception. Compared with The Old Man and the Sea, a Farewell to Arms was quite refreshing and romantic.
